Description:

Acacia falcata, commonly known as the Sickle Leaf Wattle, is a stunning native shrub or small tree, perfect for bushland regeneration, native gardens, or wildlife habitats. This versatile plant is prized for its gracefully curved, sickle-shaped foliage and delicate cream flowers, bringing texture and beauty to any landscape. It also plays a vital role in supporting local ecosystems, attracting birds and butterflies and serving as a host plant for the imperial hairstreak butterfly (Jalmenus evagoras).

This hardy species typically grows 2–5 metres tall and about 1 metre wide, with a slightly arching or weeping habit. Adaptable to most soil types, it is an excellent choice for bushland regeneration and soil stabilisation projects, thanks to its nitrogen-fixing ability.

🌳Key Features:

  • Height & Width: 2–5 metres tall, 1 metre wide
  • Foliage: Pale green to grey-green sickle-shaped phyllodes, 7–19 cm long and 9–40 mm wide, with a prominent midvein
  • Flowers: Light cream to pale yellow, ball-shaped blooms appearing in clusters during autumn and winter (April–August)
  • Habitat: Thrives in dry sclerophyll forests and woodlands across eastern Australia, from Queensland to southern New South Wales
  • Wildlife-Friendly: Attracts birds and butterflies; supports native pollinators and serves as a host plant for the imperial hairstreak butterfly
  • Drought-Tolerant & Hardy: Ideal for Australian climates
  • Uses: Excellent for ecological restoration, bushland regeneration, and soil stabilisation; bark traditionally used by Indigenous Australians to treat skin ailments

☀️Climate Suitability:

Acacia falcata thrives in temperate and subtropical regions, growing best in sunny positions with well-drained soils. It tolerates a range of conditions, from rocky to loamy soils, making it an adaptable choice for diverse Australian climates.
