Description
Callistemon Hybrid cv Pink Champagne – Pink Bottlebrush Selection
Family: Myrtaceae
Packet Size: Approx. 500+ seeds
Description
Callistemon ‘Pink Champagne’ is a distinctive Australian bottlebrush selection admired for its large, soft-pink flower spikes with contrasting yellow anthers. On the named parent cultivar, the blooms can fade towards a pale cream or white as they age, giving the plant a gentle change of colour during flowering.
Its evergreen, narrow grey-green leaves are aromatic when crushed. The parent grows as a dense, upright shrub, often reaching about 3 metres high and 2 metres wide in favourable garden conditions.
This listing supplies seed from the Pink Champagne selection. Because bottlebrushes hybridise readily, seedlings cannot be guaranteed to retain the parent’s exact pastel-pink flowers, mature size or shape.
Key Features
- Parent flowers: Large, soft-pink bottlebrush spikes with yellow anthers; older blooms may fade pale.
- Parent foliage: Narrow, grey-green, evergreen and aromatic leaves.
- Parent habit: Dense, upright shrub, often around 3 m high by 2 m wide.
- Garden uses: Flowering specimen, mixed shrub border or informal screening.
- Wildlife: Nectar-rich blossoms are attractive to visiting honeyeaters and insects.
Growing Conditions
- Position: Full sun for abundant blooms; some light shade is tolerated.
- Soil: Adaptable to many garden soils, preferably with reasonable drainage.
- Watering: Water young plants regularly; provide extra moisture during extended hot, dry spells.
- Climate: Suits many temperate and subtropical locations; protect seedlings from hard frost.
- Pruning: Remove fading flower spikes or prune lightly after flowering to promote fresh branching.
Seed Propagation
- Prepare: Fill a shallow tray with clean, fine-textured, freely draining seed-raising mix and moisten it before sowing.
- Sow: Scatter the very fine seeds sparingly over the surface, pressing gently into the mix. Do not bury deeply.
- Water: Mist very carefully or water from below so the small seeds are not displaced.
- Position: Keep the tray warm with bright filtered light, sheltered from hot direct sun and drying winds.
- Moisture: Keep the surface consistently lightly moist, not saturated, and allow fresh air to circulate.
- Germination: Seedlings may appear within several weeks in suitable conditions; timing and viability vary by seed lot.
- Transplant: Carefully pot on well-developed seedlings after they produce true leaves and sufficient roots.
Important Note: Please note that seed-grown plants can show natural variations in flower colour and growth habit compared to the parent plant.
