Acca sellowiana (Feijoa)

Seed Quantity: 40 seeds (approximately). Small scoop of high-quality seeds. (Seeds are very tiny)

Description: Acca sellowiana, commonly known as Feijoa or Pineapple Guava, is a non-native evergreen shrub or small tree prized for its ornamental flowering and delicious, aromatic fruit. Its bushy and thick growth habit makes it excellent for hedges and screens, as well as a popular addition to gardens and landscapes. This subtropical plant produces edible, egg-sized sweet fruit, and its flower petals are also edible. While it can tolerate some shade, it fruits best in full sun.

💮Key Features:

  • Height & Width: Grows to a height of 3-7 meters.
  • Foliage: Evergreen, providing year-round greenery. Bushy and thick growth habit.
  • Flowers: Ornamental flowering plant with edible petals. Requires bees for pollination (hand-pollination is possible).
  • Fruit: Produces egg-sized, sweet fruit with an aromatic flavour, typically starting from 2-3 years of age.
  • Versatile Use: Suitable for gardens, landscapes, hedges, and windbreaks.

☀️Growing Conditions:

  • Soil: Well-drained seed-raising mix but adaptable to various soil types with good drainage.
  • Position: Prefers full sun to partial shade.
  • Watering: Water regularly while the plant is fruiting. If in a pot, water consistently every week.
  • Climate: Subtropical. The plant can tolerate heat and some cold, but fruits best when not exposed to prolonged cold.
  • Fertiliser: Apply a slow-release organic fertiliser once a year in Spring, before fruiting

🌱Propagation Instructions:

  1. Sowing Time: Plant seeds when temperatures are mild and suitable for subtropical plants.
  2. Pre-Treatment: Place seeds in fresh water for 24-48 hours.
  3. Sowing: Place seeds on the surface of a well-draining seed-raising mix in pots or trays. Sprinkle a very small amount of soil or fine sand just to cover the tiny seeds.
  4. Moisture & Warmth: Keep the soil consistently moist. You can achieve this by placing the pot on a saucer of water and keeping it topped up, or by placing several pots in a shallow tray filled with water. Position in a warm, sunny location.
  5. Germination Timeframe: Germination times can vary depending on conditions.
  6. Seedling Care: Transplant seedlings carefully once they have developed a strong root system and several sets of true leaves.
