Growing Conditions:

Watering: Moderate until established; maintain mulch to retain moisture
Climate: Native to Eastern Australia; performs best in subtropical and warm temperate regions
Propagation & Germination Instructions: Germination of Elaeocarpus eumundi is slow because of the hard, woody endocarp (shell) protecting the kernels. Follow these steps for the best results:
Soak: Soak the cleaned stones in lukewarm water for 24 hours to prime the seed.
Scarify: Use a nut-cracker or vice to very gently crack the hard outer shell. This allows moisture to reach the kernels inside. Be careful not to crush the internal seeds.
Second Soak: Soak the cracked shells in fresh water for a further 24 hours.
Sow: Plant the stones just below the surface (about 5–10mm deep) in a high-quality, well-draining native seed-raising mix.
Environment: Place in a warm, humid, and semi-shaded position. Protect from harsh winds.
Watering: Keep the mix consistently moist but never waterlogged.
Patience: Germination is notoriously slow, taking anywhere from 3 to 12 months. Do not discard your pots too early.
